    Itinerary

    Day 1Arrive Delhi (By Flight)

    Upon arrival at Mumbai airport, meet assist and transfer to hotel. Rest of the day at leisure for independent activities.

    Day 2Delhi Sighseeing

    Breakfast at hotel. Later proceed for sightseeing tour of Old and New Delhi.

    In Old Delhi visit to Jama Masjidthis great mosque of Old Delhi is the largest in India, with a courtyard capable of holding 25,000 devotees. It was begun in 1644 and ended up being the final architectural extravagance of Shah Jahan, the Mughal emperor who built the TajMahal and the Red Fort.Drive past Red Fort and visit Raj Ghat is a memorial to Mahatma Gandhi.

    Humayun’s Tomb was the result of a wife’s love for her deceased husband. Incorporating Persian and Mughal architectural elements, this one-of-a-kind garden tomb was built mid-16th century in the memory of Mughal Emperor Humayun by his Persian-born first wife, Haji Begum. The interspersing of red sandstone and white marble in its arched facades is the striking feature of this mausoleum that from a distance seems to hover mid air. Little wonder, the grand scale of the structure, the Islamic geometry, restrained decoration, and the symmetrical gardens are believed to be an inspiration for the TajMahal in Agra.

    Drive past India Gate (War Memorial Arch), also drive past President’s House, Parliament House, Government Secretariat Buildings and Connaught Place shopping center.

    Jaipur founded in AD 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan is popularly known as the Pink City. With broad avenues and spacious gardens, the city is steeped in history and culture. Here the past comes alive in magnificent forts and palaces, blushed pink, where once lived the maharajas. The bustling bazaars of Jaipur, famous for Rajasthan jewellery, fabric and shoes, possess a timeless quality and are a treasure-trove for the shoppers.

    Day 4Jaipur Sightseeing

    Breakfast at hotel. Later proceed for sightseeing tour of Jaipur.

    Visit the Amber Fort, (pronounced Amer) is at a distance of about 11 kilometres from Jaipur. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it was the bastion of the Kachwahas of Amber, until the capital was moved to the plains, to what is today Jaipur. The palace, located in craggy hills, is a beautiful melange of Hindu and Mughal styles. Raja Man Singh I began construction in 1592 and the palace, which was built as a strong, safe haven against attacking enemies, was completed by Mirja Raja Jai Singh.

    City Palace complex was conceived and built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the founder of Jaipur. A beautiful fusion of Mughal and Rajput architecture, the palace is still home to the last ruling royal family which lives in a private section of the palace. Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II is credited with building most of the structures, but it was expanded upon by later rulers as well. The City Palace Complex includes the Diwan-E-Am (Hall of public audience), Diwan-E-Khas (Hall of private audience), Mubarak Mahal (the palace of reception) and the Maharani’s Palace (the palace of the queen). Mubarak Mahal now houses the Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II Museum and displays a vast and unique collection of royal costumes. 

    Jantar Mantara UNESCO World Heritage Site, JantarMantar in Jaipur is considered to be the largest of the five astronomical observatories built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the founder of Jaipur. It contains sixteen geometric devices, designed to measure time, track celestial bodies and observe the orbits of the planets around the sun. It also houses an Interpretation Centre that helps tourists understand the working principles and chronology of the observatory.

    Day 5Jaipur / Agra by Surface (Approx252Kms / 06Hrs)

    Breakfast at hotel. Later proceed for Agra.En-route visiting FatehpurSikri.

     

    FatehpurSikri, , a city predominantly in red sand-stone, situated at a distance of 37 kms from Agra, was built by the Mughal Emperor Jalal-ud-din Mohammad Akbar, in honour of the great Sufi saint Sheikh SalimChisti ; its magnificence and uniqueness offers a fine example of the emperor’s architectural finesse. Akbar’s tolerant religious views and interest in literature, architecture and fine arts gave the buildings at FatehpurSikri a charismatic blend of Islamic and Hindu elements in their style and design.

     

    After visiting FtehpurSikri continue drive to Agra.

     

    Agra is a city offering a discovery of the beautiful era. Agra has a rich history, reflected in its numerous monuments dotted in and around the city. The earliest citation for Agra comes from the mythological era, where the epic Mahabharata refer Agra as ‘Agravana’ meaning paradise in Sanskrit. ‘Ptolemy’, the famous second century A.D. geographer, was the first person who referred Agra with its modern name. The Modern Agra was founded by Sikandar Lodi, ruler of Lodi dynasty in 16th century. It was when Shah Jahan descended the Mughal throne that Agra reached the zenith of architectural beauty.

    Day 6Agra Sightseeing

    Breakfast at hotel. After breakfast proceed for sightseeing tour of Agra.

    Visiting TajMahal “The embodiment of all things pure”, said Rudyard Kipling on TajMahal’s beauty and that is no wordplay as the Taj is undoubtedly a pure epitome of beauty. It is an immortal poem in white marble and is the finest expression of love of an emperor for his queen. Located on a bank of River Yamuna, it was built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife and Queen MumtazMahal in 1631, who died giving birth to his child and whose last wish to her husband was “to build such a tomb in her memory which the world has never seen before.” It took over 17 years, 22000 workers and 1000 elephants to build the wonderful mausoleum. (Taj Mahal Closed on Friday)

    Agra Fort A massive red-sandstone fort located on the banks of River Yamuna was built under the commission of Emperor Akbar in 1565 and was further built by his grandson Shah Jahan. The fort, semi-circular on plan, is surrounded by a 21.4 m high fortification wall.

    Itmad-Ud-Daula A masterpiece of design and construction, this tomb was built under the commission of Empress Noor Jahan in memory of her father MirzaGhias Beg in 1623-28 A.D. This ornate tomb is considered a precursor of TajMahal. It is built completely in white marble and reflects a dazzling charm to the visitors.

    Day 7Agra / Jhansi by Train and from Jhansi / Orchha / Khajuraho by Surface (Approx 190 Kms / 05 Hrs)

    Early breakfast at hotel. After breakfast transfer to railway station to board train for Jhansi. Upon arrival meet assist and transfer to Khajuraho. En-route visiting Orchha.

    Orchha The historic town of Orchha, nestled on the banks of river Betwa, was founded in the 16th century by the Bundela Rajput Chief, RudraPratap. The ancient town seems frozen in time, with its many monuments continuing to retain their original grandeur even to this day. Here you will find some of the most fascinating temples and palaces that will help you realise a childhood fantasy – travsitelling back in time.

    After visiting Orchha continue drive to Khajuraho.

    Khajuraho is an ancient city known for its magnificent temples and intricate sculptures. As per the historical archives, the Khajuraho temple site had 85 temples during the 12th century spread over 20 square kilometres.

    Day 8Khajuarho Sightseeing

    Breakfast at hotel. After breakfast proceed for Temple tour of Khajuraho.

    Visit the Western Group of Templesis very close to the archaeological museum. Temples has approximately 870 marvellous sculptures engraved on the interior and exterior walls. Just after entering the Western group, the plaque on the right gives a brief introduction to the history of the Khajuraho. The main attraction of this place is a Shivling and the beautiful floral carving in the Sanctum of the temple. The three outer sections of the walls depict the sculptures of gods, goddesses and Hindu mythological creatures.

    KandariyaMahadeva Temple: Built between 1025 to 1050, the temple rises in successive towers like a range of hills. The lintel of the temple has a four- armed Shiva lined by Lord Brahma, the creator and Lord Vishnu, the preserver. 

    Jagdambi Temple: Jagdambi is another name for Goddess Parvati, wife of Lord Shiva. On a platform inside the sanctum of the temple, a sculpture of Lord Vishnu is beautifully carved. There are also a few sculptures of sura-sundaris (celestial beauty) which are particularly appealing.

    ASI Museum This museum has some amazing sculptures and artefacts which are well displayed with their names and prospective age. An 11th – 12th-century statue of SambhavaNath is placed in the Jain gallery which is situated on the left of the museum. A sculpture of Varaha with six heads and a dancing Ganesh are the exquisite statues to see in the museum. There are many other temples in the Western Group, which have similar architectural significance.

    Later visit Eastern Group of Temples visits Vamana Temple, Javari Temple and Parsvanatha Temple.

    Vamana Temple is dedicated to the fifth incarnation of Lord Vishnu and is built between 1050-75. This temple has few erotic carvings and a four-armed standing Lord Vishnu on its lintel. 

    Javari Temple Built between 1075 and 1100, Javari Temple stands on a high plinth and has a raised Shikhara. Its delicately carved MakaraTorana arch is a fine example of the stone carving skills of the people of that era.

    Parsvanatha Temple: This temple is one among the couple of old temples that were constructed using honey-coloured sandstone. This Jain temple was built between 950-970 but also holds images of deities of the Vaishnava faith, Lord Vishnu.

    Day 9Khajuraho / Varanasi by flight

    Breakfast at hotel. Later proceed for airport to board flight for Varanasi.

    Varanasi, or Benaras, (also known as Kashi) is one of the oldest living cities in the world. Varanasi`s Prominence in Hindu mythology is virtually unrevealed. Mark Twain, the English author and literature, who was enthralled by the legend and sanctity of Benaras, once wrote : “Benaras is older than history, older than tradition, older even than legend and looks twice as old as all of them put together. ” Abode of Lord Shiva and Parvati, the origins of Varanasi are yet unknown. Ganges in Varanasi is believed to have the power to wash away the sins of mortals.

    Upon arrival straight proceed to visit the evening Ganga Aarti at Dashashwamedhghat.

    Every evening Ganga Aarti is carried out in three holy cities of India. They are Haridwar, Rishikesh and Varanasi. All three of them have different vibes and energies. It is said that you should be a part of all the three aartis once in a lifetime.

    The Aarti is always carried out facing the River Ganga. A lot of lamps are lit during the aarti. They are usually circled out by priests. It is always done clockwise. The aarti is always accompanied by different songs sung while praising the Ganga. It is believed that the lamps acquire the power of the deity.

    Day 10 Varanasi / Delhi by flight

    Early morning boat ride tour will give you the real view of holy Varansi, where you will see the morning rituals, special features of the various ghats that you will pass along the way and burning ghat where the dead are cremated. After boat ride Visit the popular KashiVishwanath Temple, ManasMandir, Birla Temple and SankatMochan.

    Return back to hotel for breakfast. After breakfast in time transfer to airport to board flight for Delhi.

    Upon arrival meet assist and transfer to local restaurant for Dinner. After dinner in time transfer to airport to board flight for onward destination.
